Look at their level to see if you will be able to handle them, if not, you should come back at a higher level. As you approach it, you will see enemies standing around guarding it. This does not prevent you from doing it again, it's simply letting you know that it has been done. Once completed, it will be marked as such on your map. The map screen does not tell you if it's currently active however, so you must investigate that yourself. Once you have found an Anchor once, it will forever be marked on your map as a location so you will know exactly where to go in the future.

There’s a large party on offer right from the start too, with eight characters available to play as. “Most RPGs drip-feed their characters to the player throughout the adventure as a means to give their introduction more meaning, but not Astria Ascending you’re given your full party and just got to roll with it. I just feel like the introductory hour or so could have offered a bit more just to make me feel more invested in the world. The player will be pretty clueless to the setting and its characters to begin with, with very little done to go into depth about what’s going on in the world, the finer points of each locale, or the characters you play as. However, I couldn’t help but to feel a little overwhelmed by the tale when starting out. It did more than enough to keep me intrigued right until the end, so the storytelling hit the mark as far as RPGs are concerned. It’s your typical fantasy RPG fare with your standard cast of colourful protagonists and villainous foes, whilst there’s plenty of lore found across the expansive world to flesh events out. Well, after a few little twists-and-turns, chaos does start to run rife in the world, sending the demi-gods on a journey that won’t only determine the fate or Orcanon, but also for themselves.Īstria Ascending’s narrative is fine. Whilst they protect the peace and ensure that those that would threaten Orcanon are dealt with, there’s an underlying feeling that something could go wrong at any time. This comes at a cost though whilst demi-gods have powers beyond the average person, they’re cursed to die in three years and be replaced by a new set of demi-gods. It’s also protected by eight powerful demi-gods, with a representative in place from each of the races of the world. The game tells the story of Orcanon, a world that finds itself in a peaceful state known as Harmony thanks to a magical fruit known as Harmelon that appeases vicious tendencies. Still, it’s all well and good to look pretty, but how does the gameplay hold up over its forty-plus hour adventure? Check out a gallery of screenshots down below: Astria Ascending, the new release from developer Artisan Studios, is the latest example of that, with its beautiful visuals catching my attention almost immediately. Whilst re-visiting classics in the Final Fantasy series and playing through new releases in established franchises such as Bravely Default has been a treat though, it’s some of the lesser-known titles that have often caught my attention the most. The Nintendo Switch has become my ‘go to’ RPG machine over the last few years, with a wealth of both new and old releases in the genre seeing plenty of hours of playtime thanks to the convenience of being able to play on the go. If a character successfully ruins a prophecy this way, see also Thread of Prophecy, Severed. Winds of Destiny, Change! and Immune to Fate are about having the ability to screw destiny as a superpower the former is changing the odds to favor you instead while the latter is just being flat out immune to fate.Ĭompare Off the Rails and I Am Not a Gun. Or it can turn out to be a Self-Defeating Prophecy, where the disaster could never have been averted if the supposed doom hadn't prompted the character to try. Likewise, sometimes this can turn out to be an example of You Can't Fight Fate in disguise, since the character's attempt to beat fate ultimately turns out to be what fulfills it (ala Oedipus Rex, the moral of which is that while Man can't beat fate, at least he doesn't have to look at it). When someone is pushed dangerously close to the Despair Event Horizon, they may prefer this trope's opposite: Resigned to the Call. Fate, stories where it is possible are Types 2 through 5 on the scale, with Type 2 being by far the most difficult.Īn Aesop delivered in shows based around this trope is that what ultimately determines the worth of a human's life is not some sadistic deity or vague cosmic assembly, but the choices of the human themself. Unlike with heroes who take the Screw Destiny route, this never works, as often, the means that villains employ to try to do this (which often involve attempts to stop the hero from being born or kill him when he is still a child) will come back to bite them hard, and will only serve to ensure their ultimate downfall in the end. Villains often try this as well, particularly in regards to prophecies concerning their downfall. If they get ahold of the Tomes of Prophecy and Fate, they might literally rewrite their fate. If one particular character has this ability while everyone else is helpless against it, then they would be Immune to Fate. A hero who screws destiny by pressing on regardless of, or even against, a prophecy, becomes The Unchosen One. Occurs frequently when rival seers engage in Scry vs. If they set out to Set Right What Once Went Wrong via time travel, and end up making it happen, it becomes You Already Changed the Past. If they fail or succeed but fulfill the prophecy anyway, it becomes You Can't Fight Fate and a strike against faith in individuality. Note that it's only a true Screw Destiny if the characters actually succeed in evading fate. They're going to become who they want to be. Screw destiny and all the others who try to discourage them they're not going to fulfill the prophecy of world destruction because they're the Big Bad's descendant, or become a sacrificial magician. And then there are those who don't care about that philosophical mumbo-jumbo and believe that as strong, free-willed individuals, there's no reason why they shouldn't decide their own futures. There are those characters who are mere Cosmic Playthings in the scheme of an implacable Fate Because Destiny Says So. So to the Diablo community I ask, what do you think of those ideas, stupid, good, something else entirely? But I do believe if either Option one or Option two would be in the game it would extend the season for a few more weeks for me since there would be something to work towards as a "Guarantee upgrade". So with those numbers, I would be getting around 1 Primal Upgrade Resource from Option one each 3-4 Weeks, which does not sound that OP in my option. Usually I get around 10-12 Primals in that time and I think I have once gotten a usable Primal, but if I remember correctly it was a chest piece so just Defensive stats, else they are just salvage Primals.Īfter those 2 weeks I usually stop playing the season since the rewards are minnimal since its so rare to find a good Ancient or primals with the correct stats. Option one is of course more OP, but if I go over my season history I play usually around 2 weeks each season (The weekend the season stats and some the week after and the 2nd weekend of the season) after that I have almost always gotten all my items and with the correct stats, some ancients. Personally I like the option one better, because having a good Ancient Item just waiting to be perfect and counting down after each Primal you find would increase the thrill of seeing them since option two would still have a lot of RNG in it but you could do it more often. With these changes I believe that getting a primal would feel a little more rewarding, since even if it would not be a usable item or usable stats, you would get a chance or be working towards your TRUE item. Would be instead of getting 15 Forgotten Souls for a salvage you would get 1 Primal Forgotten Soul, and in the Cube you could re-roll a Ancient/Primal Ancient item with all the stats being randomized again like the Re-roll of Legendary but the item would be guaranteed to be Ancient with around ~20% to be a Primal. Would be instead of getting 15 Forgotten Souls for a salvage we would get one of a 'Primal Resource' (No idea what to call it), and after having gathered some amount of them, like 15-25, maybe more, you could craft a 'Primal Upgrade Resource' (Also, no idea what to call it), that could be used on a Ancient Item to upgrade it to Primal, keeping all the current stats but just upgrade them to max Value. I have thought of 2 ways they could change them to make them feel more rewarding and fun. So all I can do with them is Salvage them for 15 Forgotten souls each, which is not a lot, they are a total of 2 Re-rolls of a Legendary item.Īnd for me at least seeing a Primal on the floor is almost more of a disappointment than the butterfly feeling of 'maybe its the ONE' that they should be, because the chance of them being the one or just a usable item are so slim. Thank you for your work on the game but maybe you should take another step back and see the game from others prospective.I'm not the most hardcore of a Diablo 3 players, but I do like the start of the season and take part in many of them, but with the current state of Primal Ancients they feel so bad for the casuals, that are not grinding 130+ GRifts, for example, this season I have pushed 105 Solo and could with current gear probably go to 107-110 and I have gotten 7 Primals, none of them are usable, one of them is an item I would like to use but has wrong stats so its worthless as the others. Enough said … and of course just my humble opinion. And players saying otherwise are not working a full time job. plain and simple the drop rate on Forgotten Souls is way to low. between that and the trolls telling people to set it to Torment 1 and kill all the bosses in Rifts when you don’t even get 1 ancient by doing that to get forgotten souls. I brows the leader boards and look at the gear and defiantly something is out of kilter and I honestly think you know what I am saying. Not a ton but at least make it reasonable. you might want to gear the game a little more toward the people working jobs that pay for these games. by a crapton i mean like 2 1/2 weeks to get 5000 and at 50 a pop to try and get a primal or a ancient so you can really start to have fun with the game since you have to have ancient gear to even enhance it with gems. Forgotten Souls 50 a pop to use and literally a crapton of time spent to get enough to make a difference. Wow guys you never cease to disappoint and I have been playing your game from the beginning. In the plotlines it’s all about the will - do you have the will to do this thing that seems impossible? That’s what making films is like, they seem impossible. Now I find a kinship with what we do as filmmakers. When I was a kid, I really loved sports movies. Then you think about it a little more and decide to do it. So Adam Sandler calls you about a movie and you don’t think the project is a good fit for you. And the mix of so many real-life elements with Zagar’s naturalistic filmmaking touches has caused many viewers to wonder if the film is based on a true story. When he discovers Bo Cruz (Juancho Hernangómez), an unknown player living in Spain, Stanley risks everything to get him on the team.Īside from Utah Jazz player Hernangómez, the film is stuffed with other real current and former NBA players, including Anthony Edwards, Boban Marjanovic, Kenny Smith and Julius “Dr. The film, from Sandler’s Happy Madison Productions, stars the comedian as Stanley Sugerman, a scout for the Philadelphia 76ers who spends most of his time scouring the globe for the next NBA sensation, away from his wife, Teresa (Queen Latifah), and daughter Alex (Jordan Hull) while desperately wanting to become a coach. “Hustle,” which has been firmly atop Netflix’s most-watched movies list since it launched last week, is just the latest example in a string of unexpected turns that’s included “The Meyerowitz Stories,” “The Week Of,” “Murder Mystery” and “Uncut Gems.”ĭirected by Jeremiah Zagar, whose previous film “We the Animals” was nominated for five Spirit Awards, Sandler’s breakout basketball dramedy was written by Taylor Materne and “A Star Is Born” co-writer Will Fetters. There are occasionally perplexing jolts of the camera, Cruz's English goes from basic to fluent in a heartbeat, and Foster's villain is a little over the top, but that's all nitpicking in a movie with this much well-timed humor and genuine heart. For the last few years it’s felt like Adam Sandler has been rewriting the rulebook of what he does onscreen. The film rests on its performances (Queen Latifah is a great choice as Sugerman's wife) and story, with the anticipated highs and lows of any good sports movie. Philly fans, affectionately mocked as "the best because they're the worst," will love this tribute (much has already been made about a local donut shirt that Sandler sports). There are so many cameos by current and veteran players in this film that you have to wonder how much hustling Sandler and his co-producers (including LeBron James) had to do themselves to round up the star-studded crew. Pro player Hernangomez is excellent as a talented ingenue with both a temper and a heart of gold. "Guys in their fifties don't have dreams - they have nightmares and eczema," he says, but he does still have a dream - and Bo embodies it. As a character, Sugerman has settled into middle age. As an actor, mature roles like this are where Sandler does his best work. The film soars thanks to Sandler's star performance: He toggles seamlessly between drama and comedy (the latter thankfully understated here). Sugerman and Cruz also discover a father/son-like bond in Hustle, which is underscored in a moving scene in which Bo's mother advises him not to ignore the love and dedication that Sugerman has shown him - and again in a symbolic tattoo that one character gets. This sports film will delight basketball fans, but at heart, it's a tender relationship tale about two men and their journey to finally live up to their full potential. I wish there were a cleaner version of the movie, because aside from all the stuff that earned it the R rating, the story is good and even inspiring in parts. The p*rn references are in multiple scenes and more than brief mentions (e.g., included in a discussion about someone ordering it on a hotel TV and that being wasteful because “it’s free on the internet”). In another similar scenario, someone calls the main character’s mother a “wh*re” and then follows it up with a comment about her not even being a wh*re “because wh*res get paid.” ……… E.g., one player tries to get in the main character’s head by saying he (main character) slept with his own mother and that his daughter is a product of that s*xual relationship. It’s not just the swearing (I’m not under any illusion that they haven’t heard that language at school and on YouTube), it’s the way things are said. Our 12-yr-olds have been begging to see it, so I previewed it hoping I could maybe sensor the “bad” parts and let them see the rest, but the difficult language is so pervasive we are going to have to wait until they’re older (and I would still have to mute several scenes). I recommend previewing it if you are considering letting someone younger than 15 see this movie. New tables are added all the time as in-app purchases. These people become much more important in Part 2. These stories not only flesh-out his early relationships with ex-wife Claire (Ludivine Sagnier/ Ludmilla Makowski), best friend and accomplice Benjamin (Antoine Gouy/Adrian Valli De Villebonne), and former flame Juliette Pellegrini (Clotilde Hesme/Léa Bonneau), but they offer meaningful contrast with the current timeline, as both past and present see Diop navigating the consequences of his schemes, and their effects on the people around him. The show’s childhood flashbacks, previously deployed to fill scattered elements of Diop’s backstory, now portray episodic events from his early days as a teenage hustler (where he’s played with charm by the young Mamadou Haidara). While the season frequently breaks the promises of its cliffhangers, its narrative still feels more incisive than Part 1. Omar Sy may not have much to work with, but his alluring presence makes Assane Diop feel like a worthy successor to Arsène Lupin." " Lupin manages to have fun even with an antiquated premise - the story of a suave con-man who charms his way through high-profile robberies - while adding just enough new spin on the concept to feel refreshing. The season’s first episode pits them against Pellegrini’s Black henchman Léonard (Adama Niane), and what ought to play out as a standard chase to save Diop’s son is imbued with surprising intensity, when all three men are forced to tiptoe around scornful onlookers in a small, mostly-Caucasian town not far from Étretat, where Part 1’s finale took place and where Leblanc himself once lived. Diop, the son of working-class Senegalese immigrants, is looked upon with far more suspicion than Arsène Lupin, even (and especially) when disguised as an aristocrat, while North African policeman Guedira - the modern equivalent of Leblanc’s Inspector Ganimard - doesn’t command the respect of his white peers the same way. However, once its dramatic questions are clarified, the show falls back into its rhythm of entertaining action peppered with social commentary, largely born from placing non-white characters in traditionally white settings, like those of Maurice Leblanc’s original novels. “Chapter 6” has an admittedly awkward start, since Guedira finding Diop doesn’t seem to line up with what Part 1 had teased. Last season’s finale, “Chapter 5,” ended with the gripping one-two-punch of Diop’s son Raoul (Etan Simon) being kidnapped just as detective and fellow Lupin enthusiast Youssef Guedira (Soufiane Guerrab) caught up to the master thief. Part 3 has already been confirmed, but this second block of episodes is a fun and satisfying conclusion to Diop’s story - at least, for the time being. Lupin: Part 2 largely surpasses Part 1, and it even overcomes a few genuinely deflating rug-pulls to create a season with swift pacing, alluring characters, and a clockwork action climax right out of a spy thriller. Part 2, despite its bizarre penchant for diffusing tension at key moments, is much tighter than its predecessor, and it allows Sy to embody a much more interesting version of Diop, a man now dealing with the ripple effects of a criminal life he had hoped to leave behind. The French thriller’s first five episodes were largely set-up, but they make way for a second-half filled with mile-a-minute payoffs since the police and other forces are hot on Diop’s heels when the season begins. Lupin’s second season picks up where Part 1 left off, diving headfirst into the ongoing cat-and-mouse game between Assane Diop (Omar Sy) - a modern-day Parisian swindler taking after Arsène Lupin, the fictional gentleman thief - and Hubert Pellegrini (Hervé Pierre), the ruthless businessman who had Diop’s father framed for theft. |
